Montana Sports Betting Approved
In May, Governor Steve Bullock signed one of two passed bills officially making sports betting legal in Montana.
The Associated Press reported that Bullock signed bill H 725 thereby making Montana the ninth state with a US sports betting operation and vetoed a second bill that was passed by Montana legislators.
The bill approved by Bullock authorizes the state lottery to conduct the activity. For the next 7 years, Intralot will run the state’s sportsbook operation. Intralot will also be responsible for administering mobile sports betting.
The path to sports betting that was created by H725 was more direct than the bill that was vetoed. The alternative would have allowed for licensing of bars and taverns which would have allowed multiple operators in Montana.
Having the lottery alone manage sports betting in Montana is similar to the results seen in Washington DC.
